Amaiyah

At 17 months, Amaiyah-Grace accidentally aspirated mineral oil. That night, she developed a fever and began struggling to breathe. Within days, she was admitted to Akron Children’s Hospital and diagnosed with severe Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) and chemical pneumonitis.
Her condition quickly worsened. She was intubated, sedated, and later underwent a tracheotomy to relieve pressure on her lungs and support her recovery. She spent weeks in the PICU, relying on a care team that met every moment with calm and focus.
Amaiyah is now 2 and, while she still receives twice-daily breathing and vest treatments, she’s active, playful, and full of energy. She loves learning videos, dancing, and singing! Her family remembers not just the clinical care—but also the decorated hospital rooms during the holidays, thoughtful gifts, and moments of comfort in the middle of a difficult time.
Amaiyah’s journey shows why quick, expert care matters. Her family is joining #TeamCHA at #FAD2025 to make sure every kid gets the care they need—when they need it.
