Mia

While in utero, Mia was diagnosed with Ebstein’s Anomaly and given just a 10% chance of survival. Her family was told to prepare for the worst—until they found University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital.

She spent her first 11 months in the hospital, surviving multiple cardiac arrests, open-heart surgeries, infections, and heart catheters. For years, it was about making it through. Now, at 14, Mia is focused on living fully.

She takes 40 medications a day, uses oxygen, relies on a wheelchair for long distances, and sees a team of specialists who know her well. University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital treats Mia like more than a diagnosis. They coordinate across teams, plan around her anxiety, and make sure even long hospital stays include moments of comfort and joy—like decorating her room for the holidays.

Mia is proud to be part of #TeamCHA at #FAD2025—using her voice to help protect Medicaid and the care that’s helped her thrive.
