Naheim
At just 1 year old, Naheim was diagnosed with sickle cell disease. His early years were filled with pain crises, strokes, and countless hospital visits. After he survived a stroke, his doctors also diagnosed him with moyamoya disease – a rare condition that affects blood vessels in the brain. He went through two brain surgeries because of moyamoya. But everything changed when, at age 10, his care team at Nemours Children’s Hospital, Delaware, offered a bone marrow transplant—and his sister was a perfect match.
Today, Naheim is 13 and cured of sickle cell disease. He still manages moyamoya with regular checkups, but his life is completely different. He can play basketball, visit theme parks, and enjoy the beach without fear of a crisis.
From monthly hospital stays to just a few visits a year, Naheim’s journey shows what’s possible with the right care at the right time. That’s why he and his family are proud to join #TeamCHA at #FAD2025—to advocate for every child’s chance to thrive and underscore why #MedicaidMatters.
